On the 3rd July 2004 a European regulation (8998/2003) came into effect. It sets out the rules for pet animals travelling between European Union (EU) countries and into the EU from other countries.
Basically, it is a requirement that an EU pet passport is obtained under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) and in many cases a pet must be ‘micro-chipped’.
For the latest information on pet animal travel visit the U.K. Government official website: www.defra.gov.uk/animal/quarantine/index.htm or contact the Spanish Embassy.
